Steven Jackson accused of assault

I need to start this off by saying if this is true; Steven Jackson needs to be suspended from the NFL for a significant amount of time. I define significant as much more than the 16 game regular season. Players need to start to understand 1) playing in the NFL is not a right it is a privilege and 2) no one is guaranteed the right to work anywhere. For example being somewhat in the public eye, if I beat the crap out of my wife it is very likely several of the organizations I work for would not want to employ me any longer.

Now Steven Jackson is being accused of beating up his pregnant girlfriend. Since the alleged incident happened last March in Las Vegas, there are a lot of questions about the credibility of the victim. Generally speaking someone who gets beat up and the reports are she was beaten up rather severely, they would immediately report into the police. Now wait almost a year to make the report. It seems that the two have recently been arguing over child support payments, and this is what likely led to the police report.

For the time being I think we should all give Steven Jackson the benefit of the doubt. However assaulting a woman is one of the lowest, cowardly acts one can commit. Especially when we are talking about a pro athlete and a woman 9 months pregnant. I certainly hope this is not true, being a big fan of Jackson and his abilities on the field.
