Will Arnett Discusses ‘Arrested Development’: ‘The Bluths Are Worse Than Ever’

Will Arnett has been discussing the hugely anticipated and imminent return of Arrested Development.

Arnett, who played the dim-witted by loveable Gob Bluth on the show, has revealed that the Bluths are in despair at the start of the fourth season, which will see the family dealin with “economic collapse.”

“The family has kind of fallen apart,” revealed Arnett. “Left to their own devices, all of these characters will evolve into the worst versions of themselves.”

Arnett was speaking at a recent event at SXSW in Austin, Texas, and he also managed to provide some insight into the progress of Gob. “[Gob’s] got a new group of friends. He’s running with a pretty fast crowd. His fallback is always his illusions. Magic is who he is,” stated the comedian.

Mitch Hurwitz, Arrested Development’s creator, also told US Weekly that each episode of the new season will only focus on one individual character.

“It was hard to get everyone together at the same time. When you try to get that group together again, it’s unlikely,” said Hurwitz.

“Everyone has gone on to great careers and movies and such .. we’re asking for 20 weeks from everyone,” continued the writer. “That’s a huge chunk of time! We decided everyone gets one week and then we’ll get them to make cameos in other [episodes].”

After a seven year break, ten new episodes of Arrested Development are set to air on Netfilx in May. The cult comedy has developed a loyal and devoted audience since it was cancelled by Fox between 2003 and 2006, even though it was lauded by critics and won six Emmy awards.

The original cast members included Arnett, Jason Bateman, Micahel Cera, Portia de Rossi, David Cross, and Jeffrey Tambor, each of whom will be reprising their roles.
