‘Gears Of War: Judgement’ Takes Top Spot On UK Sales Chart

Gears of War: Judgement took the top spot in last week’s sales chart in the United Kingdom. The prequel to the Gears of War saga was released on March 19.

In order to get to that top spot in the rankings, the new game had to knock Tomb Raider off its perch. Lara Croft’s newest game and reboot had managed to hold on to the number one slot for two straight weeks.

Tomb Raider had been sliding in sales, and it seemed likely that a new release was going to take the top spot. It is still quite impressive that the reboot managed to stay at number two.

Gears of War: Judgement may have debuted as the top seller, but there is still cause for concern. This particular game sold just a quarter of what its predecessor in the series was able to muster. That doesn’t bode well for the game franchise in general.

The Walking Dead survival instinct managed to score the third spot in the charts. The newest zombie game, which is based on the AMC series, also debuted on March 19.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the week was just how fast and how far Starcraft 2:Heart of the Swarm fell. The game debuted last week at the third spot but fell all the way to 24th on this week’s charts.

Another game that has been out for two weeks know fell, but not quite as far. God of War: Ascension started out as the number two game last week but slipped to sixth this week.

Among the surprises was FIFA 13, which marked a 26th straight week inside the top 20, and Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 managed to stay inside the top 10 for another week.

The sequel to Sniper: Ghost Warrior continues to do far better than the its predecessor.
