Karl Urban and Minka Kelly recently headed to Vancouver to begin work on J.J. Abrams’ pilot Human.
The stars of the upcoming series from the Super 8 director recently shots a few scenes in Vancouver. The sequence finds Urban’s character arriving at the scene of the accident. It’s here that he meets Kelly for the first time.

J.J. Abrams re-teamed with J.H. Wyman to develop the science fiction show for FOX. The show tells the story of a human cop who is forced to team up with an android partner. Urban will tackle the role of John Kennex while Michael Ealy will portray robot cop Dorian.
In addition to Urban, Kelly, and Ealy, Human also stars Mackenzie Crook, Michael Irby, Minka Kelly and Lili Taylor.
If the pilot is picked up, then Human will serve as Karl Urban’s first starring role in a US television series. The actor previously starred in the UK series Riding High and Amazon High.
The show also serves as a reunion of sorts for J.J. Abrams and Karl Urban. The two previously worked together in the Star Wars reboot and the upcoming sequel Star Trek Into Darkness.
The busy filmmaker certainly has his hands full at the moment. In addition to developing Human and preparing Into Darkness for its theatrical debut later this year, Abrams is also getting ready to begin work on Star Wars: Episode VII for Disney and Lucasfilm.
“To be a part of the next chapter of the ‘Star Wars’ saga, to collaborate with Kathy Kennedy and this remarkable group of people, is an absolute honor. I may be even more grateful to [creator] George Lucas now than I was as a kid,” the filmmaker said in a statement.
J.J. Abrams is also slated to produce the next installment of the Star Trek franchise. Although Paramount is definitely interested in getting a sequel going as soon as possible, it’s unknown how involved Abrams will be on the project.
