The first batch of images from Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters have surfaced online.

The film is the sequel to Home Alone director Chris Columbus’ 2010 fantasy flick Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. The movies are based on the popular series of young adult books.

The images from Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters gives fans a glimpse of returning stars Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, and Brandon T. Jackson. Also included in the collection are new cast members Douglas Smith and Leven Rambin. The pictures can be found in the gallery below.

Although Chris Columbus handled directing duties on Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Diary of a Wimpy Kid filmmaker Thor Freudenthal will step behind the camera for the sequel. The film is expected to arrive in theaters all across the US later this year.

Here’s the film’s current official plot synopsis:

“In this retelling of Rick Riordans book, “The Sea of Monsters”, Percy Jackson, accompanied by his friends Annabeth Chase, Clarisse La Rue and Tyson, his half brother, goes on a journey to the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the Golden Fleece and save Camp Half-Blood.”

Star Logan Lerman told USA Today that he enjoyed his turn to the Percy Jackson universe.

“”It’s fun to go back to your old shoes once again and play around,” the actor explained. “And it’s always fun to have a sword in your hand, especially when you’re doing scenes which involve fighting monsters. I’m still a kid. I love doing that stuff.”

Thor Freudenthal remarked that Logan Lerman had lost his baby face in the years in-between the first film and the sequel. “He’s gotten more angular,” the director said.

The collection of images from the follow-up are included in the gallery embedded below.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters is currently slated to arrive in cinemas on August 13. Are you looking forward to the upcoming sequel?
