Jane Adams Exits Craig Robinson Pilot

Hung star Jane Adams has exited NBC’s single-camera comedy pilot starring The Office‘s Craig Robinson.

Adams signed on to join the currently untitled project, which focuses on a musician named Craig (Robinson) who has to adjust to his new life as a music teacher in a middle school, Tuesday. She was set to play Jeannette, a junior high principal who is constantly running damage control and is consistently overwhelmed by the problems of her students. Jeannette used to be an idealistic teacher, but even though she still manages to remain thoughtful to the needs of her students, she is a bit cynical about her job.

Adams left the series less than two days later after the table read.

Jane Adams isn’t the only actress to exit a pilot after the table read this week. Christina Ricci exited the pilot of Girlfriend in a Coma Tuesday. The series focuses on a woman, Karen, who has been in a coma for nearly two decades and wakes up to find she has a 17-year-old daughter named Evie. Evie is raised by Karen’s parents, played by Daniel Stern and Ann Cusack.

Ricci was the first major cast member to sign on for the series, and would have been starring opposite iCarly‘s Miranda Cosgrove, who was cast to play Evie.

While Jane Adams may have left the Craig Robinson pilot, it appears the rest of the cast will be remaining. This includes Amandla Steinberg, who played Rue in The Hunger Games, and Larenz Tate (Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Dead Presidents). Steinberg will play Irene, an eighth grader who wants to learn how to sing despite being incredibly off-key. Craig is reluctant to teach her, but her spunkiness just might win him over.

Tate will play Craig’s brother, Kevin. Kevin is also Craig’s partner in their band The Filthy Gentlemen and is described as a lady-killer who has never held a regular job.
