Developer: Xbox Live “more juvenile” than PlayStation Network

OH NO HE DIDN’T. Well, yes, he did actually. Ben Jones, a designer at Washington-based Zipper Interactive, has dared to suggest that Xbox Live is a “more juvenile” environment than PlayStation Network. Uh, I think you mean YOUR MOM’s a more juvenile environment, Ben. I … don’t even know that means.

To be fair, Jones might not be the most objective judge of this, considering Zipper Interactive are about to launch the PlayStation 3-only MAG, a multiplayer shooter that can support 256 players in a single match.

Jones told GamerZines that he considers Xbox Live to be “the more juvenile of the two [online gaming services],” largely because of “the things that are being said over Xbox Live.” He added:

“Each service has its own posse. I think the PlayStation audience definitely fits more to our game. As we saw in the beta we’ve got an audience that’s willing to communicate and willing to organise and structure, and help other people to play the game. That’s the most remarkable thing that I saw in the beta – random people helping other players along to try and familiarise themselves with this really cool experience.”

Well, that’s lovely Ben, but as a user of both services, I beg to differ. I know and play with some splendid people across Xbox Live, and have met a fair load of utter asshats on PSN. And yes, the same applies the other way. It’s in moments like this that I recall Penny Arcade’s rule concerning internet fuckwittery:

In short, every service has its share of prats, so enough with these entirely unsubstantiated claims, Jones!
