Katie Holmes Considering Leaving Acting And Becoming A Lawyer

In a recent interview, Katie Holmes admitted that she’s open to having another child and is considering a major career shift. The 34-year-old actress is apparently considering trading the camera for the courtroom and becoming a lawyer.

Holmes is the subject of Allure‘s April issu, and said in an interview with the magazine that she’s hoping for a “peaceful” 2013 after a dramatic 2012.

She has been living in New York City with 6-year-old Suri after her divorce from 50-year-old Tom Cruise, which was finalized in July. The couple are reportedly civil for their daughter’s sake, and Holmes is busy planning the next stage of her life.

Is Holmes ready to date again, possibly settle down, and even have another child? “I don’t know,” she says. “I’m open to it.”

But for now, the Dawson’s Creek alum is thinking of trading her acting career for one in law, admitting in the interview a desire to study to become an attorney one day.

“Well, my brother and father are attorneys, and –- we’ll see,” she explains. “I like the practical thinking of attorneys.”

Until then, Holmes has continued acting, with a starring role in the Broadway play Dead Accounts, which closed in early January. Holmes said that she was glad to have the experience.

“I was open to –- well, to whoever wanted me,” she said of the part. “But it was always my goal to make it back to the stage.”

Legal study or not, Holmes is going to try to take it easy in 2013.

“I’m hoping to find other things that make me feel good about myself,” Holmes said, adding, “I hope this is a peaceful year for a lot of people in the world. When you look back on the last year, there were a lot of tragedies — Hurricane Sandy, the Connecticut shooting. I just hope it’s a good year for everyone.”
