Dubya blasts Limbaugh on racist Haiti comments

Former president George W. Bush (seriously, does anyone ever get tired of saying that?) has criticized the controversial statements Rush Limbaugh has made regarding international aid to Haiti.

Limbaugh accused Obama’s administration of seeking to “politicize” the catastrophe in coming months:

“Everything this president sees is a political opportunity, including Haiti, and he will use it to burnish his credentials with minorities in this country and around the world, and to accuse Republicans of having no compassion.”

Limbaugh also said the president wishes to “boost his credibility with the black community,” and calling the tragedy (that may see well over 100,000 dead when all is said and done), “tailor made” for our president said he “could not wait to get out (to Haiti.)” Limbaugh also suggested Ditto-heads mind their wallets when thinking about donating to charities providing aid in the leveled country:

“We’ve already donated to Haiti. It’s called the U.S. income tax.”

Statements like these tend to resonate with people who may be wary of or reticent to give and like to think aid will be misplaced anyway, so why donate? But Bush, who has been working with the Bush-Clinton Foundation in Haiti to assist the millions of people in need, spoke out against the comments Limbaugh has made in the wake of the tragedy:

In regards to criticisms that President Obama is “politicizing” the tragedy, Bush said:

“I don’t know if — what they’re talking about,” Bush declared during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “I’ve been briefed by the President about the response. And as I said in my opening comment, I appreciate the president’s quick response to this disaster.”

Then Bush was asked about whether the bungled handling of the rescue of New Orleanians after Hurricane Katrina had taught him any lessons. Bush said:

“First of all, it takes time to get the supplies in place. That shouldn’t deter them. In other words, there’s an expectation– amongst people that things are going to happen quickly. And sometimes it’s hard to make things happen quickly. Secondly, there is a great reservoir of good will that wants to help. And that’s why he asked us to help, and we’re glad to do it.”
