American Horror Story Season 3 To Feature Witches

American Horror Story, season three will center around witches. Rumors that would be the plot-line have been floating around for a while now but until yesterday even the cast wasn’t allowed to confirm those rumors. At the conclusion of Paleyfest on Friday night, executive producer Ryan Murphy did finally confirm the central theme.

American Horror Story: Coven is the title of the third season, following up American Horror Story and American Horror Story: Asylum. Murphy divulged that the series had been looking to include witches into the show for a while now and that “this seemed the year to do it.”

American Horror Story season three will have plenty of acting punch to push the story forward. It had already been revealed that series regulars Frances Conroy and Jessica Lange are returning for the third year. Season one star Taissa Farmiga as well as Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe are coming back as well.

This season’s big guest star has also been confirmed to be Kathy Bates. Bates and Lange are good friends and Murphy said that friendship gave him the courage to call the veteran actress up and offer her a “cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs” role in the show. Murphy also said that Bates called an hour after receiving the script to accept the job.

The show has been one that has only shot on a sound stage, but Murphy said that AHS was branching out and would be shooting from three separate locations, including New Orleans. In addition to the bayou, there has been plenty of speculation that the Salem Witch Trials would play a prominent role in this season.

Murphy hasn’t said exactly how the witch themes will play out this year.
