Elton John Cancels Alabama Concert, Citing Health Problem

Elton John has canceled a show on Friday in Birmingham, Alabama, after he came down with an unspecified health problem.

The “Rocket Man”singer was scheduled to play at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex Arena, and a photo on arena’s Facebook page actually showed the British singer’s piano in place on stage for the show.

But just hours before the show was to start, Ticketmaster released a statement on its website that Elton John had canceled the show. Officials at the arena said it was a medical reason that forced Sir Elton to cancel, but did not have any more details.

The cancellation came after a revelation about some of the 65-year-old singer’s peculiar demands while on tour. While on a visit to Brazil, Elton John reportedly asked for an extra hotel room for his eyeglasses, and asked the promoters of the show to make sure the room at the Ouro Minas five-star hotel in Belo Horizonte stayed at a constant 60.8 degrees Fahrenheit.

Elton John has also been known to request a number of beverages, including four bottles of cranberry juice, a pint of skim milk, two bottles of top-shelf Pinot Grigio, five large bottles of San Pellegrino sparkling water, and eight small bottles of French Evian water. So if a doctor tells Elton John gets rest and drinks plenty of fluids to clear up his unknown sickness, he’ll be all set.

It could be that Elton John’s busy schedule is contributing to his poor health. The singer has 23 shows before the end of May, including a tour of the southern United States and three weeks playing at Caeser’s Palace in Las Vegas. His slate is filled through the end of 2013 as well.

There was no word on whether Elton John would cancel his next concert. The singer is schedule to play at the FedEx Forum in Memphis on Saturday.
