Bears DE Gaines Adams, died this morning at the age of 26 in Greenwood, South Carolina.
Adams, who appeared to be in good health before he died, was pronounced dead this morning at Self Regional Hospital, the county coroner has confirmed. The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office and the Greenwood County Coroner’s Office are investigating Adams’ sudden passing, and preliminary tests confirm that cause of death may have been cardiac arrest due to an enlarged heart.
Adams played college football at Clemson University before his NFL career. Adams made an appearance in 15 games last season with the Bears and Bucs and “recorded one sack.” Adams is the second NFL player to die in the past two months- Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was killed in an accident during a domestic dispute last month.
