Tom Hiddleston Discusses Fellow ‘Thor 2’ Villain

Tom Hiddleston, who played the villain Loki in both Thor and The Avengers, has been discussing his ally for Thor: The Dark World, Malekith the Accursed.

Malekith will be portrayed by Christopher Eccleston, and the sequel, which is set to be released on November 8, will see him lead an ancient race against Chris Hemsworth’s Thor across the cosmos.

Hiddleston has been praising Eccleston, stating, “Christopher Eccleston is one of Britain’s greatest actors. He brings a degree of commitment, intelligence, conviction, and complexity to everything he does.”

The War Horse star also added, “I think he really got his teeth into this thing. Christopher has enormous presence, which is very distinguishable on stage as well as film.”

Hiddleston continued to provide praise for the former Doctor Who actor. “It’s one of those things you can’t really define, you just can’t stop watching him when he’s on screen. I think he’ll be absolutely magnetic,” added the thespian.

“Malekith has his own ambition. Whether or not Loki can coincide with or contradict, subvert, or enhance that ambition remains to be seen,” teased Hiddleston.

The Avengers actor also teased about his character’s progression in the upcoming superhero adventure, noting, “Loki is constantly dancing on that tightrope between yielding entirely to his darker instinct and redemption.”

Hiddleston even stated, “The hope that one day he can be brought back and be recruited to the side of good.”

Directed by Alan Taylor, Thor: The Dark World has already had a tumultuous production after the original director, Patty Jenkins, left the project because of creative differences.

At the time Jenkins stated, “I have had a great time working at Marvel. We parted on very good terms, and I look forward to working with them again.”

Jenkins’ departure then lead to rumors circulating that Natalie Portman wanted to leave production too. However, Portman will star alongside Hemsworth, Hiddleston, Eccleston, and Anthony Hopkins in the movie.
