Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb Wear Dog Costumes, Sip Wine [Video]

One wonders whether Today‘s ratings are still in trouble, because some of its hosts either don’t care anymore or have clearly lost their minds. Recently-off-the-wagon hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb spent the fourth hour of Today Wednesday wearing dog costumes, because why not?

We’re not totally sure why, but The Huffington Post reports that the dog costumes were an attempt to convince more people to “like” their page on Facebook. How those two things go together, we’re not sure, but it doesn’t really matter. Oh, and “Who Let The Dogs Out” played in the background during the segment.

The topic of barking on the air came up, to which Kotb replied that she had “journalistic standards.” While sipping wine. While wearing a dog costume.

Gifford wants Today‘s Facebook page to reach one million “likes,” and said that she and Kotb would let some of their NBC colleagues drop them into a dunk tank if they reached their goal. The page reached 500,000 “likes” as of Tuesday.

“The reason that we are wearing our dog outfits, it’s our way of saying ‘Thank you!’ Thank you for ‘liking’ us on Facebook,” Kotb said.

“Are we still NBC News?” Gifford asked, pointing out that her fourth hour of Today is a part of the network news division.

“Not anymore,” Kotb replied.

Yeah, we don’t get it, but at the very least, Gifford was honest about it on Twitter.
