‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’: Alan Cumming Reprises Nightcrawler Role
X-Men 2 star Alan Cumming will be in X-Men: Days of Future Past to reprise his role as Nightcrawler.
James McAvoy, who played young Professor Xavier in X-Men: First Class, has announced that Alan Cumming, who played Nightcrawler in X-Men 2, will be back for the next X-Men film.
Nightcrawler, according to the movie universe, is the son of the shape-shifting villain Mystique. The blue-skinned superhero is able to teleport himself and anyone he is holding onto to any location he has been to. In X-Men 2, the character explained that he prefers to know he isn’t teleporting straight into a wall. He also explained that the markings all over his body are self-inflicted, penance for his sins.
Considering Nightcrawler is the son of Mystique and a member of the Hellfire Club, he has probably committed several sins before turning religious and going on the run.
James McAvoy, the Professor Xavier actor let the news slip during an interview with Heat Radio, in which he listed numerous cast members in line to return for the sequel. Among the returning actors and actresses in X-Men: Days of Future Past are James himself, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Alan Cumming, Peter Dinklage, Hugh Jackman, Anna Pacquin, Ellen Page, and Shawn Ashmore. This is a pretty heavy list of actors, but if any franchise can pull it off, it’s the X-Men series.
One actor who probably isn’t returning for X-Men: Days of Future Past is Jason Flemyng, who portrayed Azazel, Nightcrawler’s father. Apparently Nightcrawler got his blue skin from his mother’s side after Beast gave her a formula he thought would let her maintain a “normal” appearance. Fans may remember Azazel as the character in X-Men: First Class from the Hellfire Club who looked like a red devil and had the ability to teleport.
