Michelle Williams Hints Why She’s No Longer With Jason Segel

When the news broke that Jason Segel and Michelle Williams were no longer a couple, the blogosphere seemed to be in mourning. In the coming days we’ve reported that surprisingly, it was Williams who broke up with Segel.

A few publications picked up that Michelle Williams didn’t see herself committing to Jason Segel, blaming the bulk of the departure on distance. Segel and Williams have yet to comment on the actual break up, but during a recent interview with AnOther magazine, the actress hinted at why she broke up with Segel, saying:

“I guess realizing that there is no such thing as a perfect balance. It’s not like riding a bicycle, you don’t want to just figure it out and stay on track. I find that when I’m working, there are only two things: there’s my work and the kid. Everything else has to fall away.”

Earlier in the month Williams sang a completely different tune about her relationship with Segel as she promoted her film Oz: The Great And Powerful, saying about her beau of a year:

“If people are happy about it that makes me feel good because in my head the opposite is often true — that people fault or blame you for things.”

Recently the two have made appearances post the announcement of their split. Segel was seen with a mystery friend having lunch in Los Angeles at the Bowery Hotel, and smiling on a vespa earlier on in the day. Williams, meanwhile, was on the east coast after promoting Oz: The Great And Powerful in Europe.

The two, who have mutual friends including Michelle’s friend Busy Philipps, met at a party and began dating quickly after that. Segel is currently filming in Los Angeles for How I Met Your Mother, and Williams resides in Red Hook, Brooklyn, with her daughter Matilda Ledger.
