Robert Pattinson Gets ‘Ugly’ Makeover In ‘The Rover’: On Set Pictures

Robert Pattinson “as you never seen him before” is probably the best way to describe the just surfaced pictures of the star on location for The Rover.

Transformed from the glittering Twilight vampire Edward and Cosmopolis’ slick, Gucci clad finance wunderkind Eric Packer, Pattinson has been fitted with yellow, crooked teeth; a brutal haircut; and dirt encrusted casuals for his new role.

Directed by the acclaimed David Michod (Animal Kingdom), The Rover stars Guy Pearce (Memento, LA Confidential, Prometheus), Scoot McNairy (Killing Them Softly, Argo), Gillian Jones (Oscar and Lucinda, The Tree), and Anthony Hayes and Susan Prior (both Animal Kingdom).

Nutshelled, the film tells the story of Eric (Pearce), a traveler in the Australian desert who gets drawn into the orbit of a ruthless gang of criminals after they steal his car and something priceless hidden in it. Along the way, Eric enlists the help of Reynolds (Pattinson), described as “the naïve and injured junior member of the gang” who gets left behind after a previous robbery.

According to Indiewire, Pattinson describedThe Rover as:

“[It’s] a kind of a western. It’s very existential. It’s really interesting. I couldn’t really explain to you what it’s about, but it’s sort of about how much pain can the world take and how much disgust and cruelty before love dies. I think that’s kind of what it’s about.”

Noting the above, pictures of the 26-year-old Brit wearing what appears to be a prosthetic of unattractive rotting teeth while filming scenes with Pearce seems entirely appropriate.

Variety recently reported that The Rover had moved into production, locating in Southern Australia in various small towns near Adelaide. Previous shots of Pattinson shooting a fight scene near Quorn revealed a glimpse of the grueling action the film will showcase.

In the new pictures, a muscular body-double for Pattinson can be seen on set wearing the same clothes as the actor, which is an strong indication that the film will feature violent aspects.

The seven week shoot is slated to finish on March 16 with filming scheduled to take place in the mountainous Flinders Ranges before post-production moves to Sydney.
