HP Slate Runs Windows 7, Comes With Amazon Goodness

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer gave the world its first glimpse of Microsoft’s challenge to the yet to be announced Apple tablet, the excitingly named (not) HP Slate.

Details on the HP Slate are thinner than Ballmer’s hair, but there were a few tidbits given. The Slate runs Windows 7, and as Ballmer demonstrated, you can play Frogger on it (no, we’re not making this up.)

The interesting part is seemingly a tie-up with Amazon (be it with Microsoft, HP or both we’re not sure.) Ballmer demoed the Amazon PC reader on the HP Slate, and the reader will ship as standard with the Slate.

Release date: “later this year,” and the price: “about the same as a mobile phone.” Our guess, pre-Christmas and around the $600-$700 mark.
