‘Robin Hood’ Meets ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ In New DreamWorks Film

A new Robin Hood movie is set to be produced that will see be heavily inspired by Ocean’s Eleven.

Produced by DreamWorks, the film, entitled, Merry Men, will centre around the ensemble characters of Little John, Friar Tuck, Maid Marian, and Will Scarlett. Deadline have also reported, “There is a high-concept revenge angle that tonally is reminiscent of The Dirty Dozen and Ocean’s Eleven.”

The film will be scripted by Brad Ingelsby, who wrote Out Of Furnace, which will be released later this year and stars Christian Bale, Zoe Saldana, and Woody Harrelson. Scott Waugh, who co-directed 2012’s Act Of Valor and the upcoming Need For Speed, is also attached to sit behind the camera on the project.

The tale of Robin Hood has been told many times on film. Russell Crowe most recently starred in 2010’s Robin Hood, which was directed by Ridley Scott.

However, the reception for the film was decidedly mixed, with many critics noting that Crowe’s English accent was poor. It went on to gross over $300 million at the box office, but it was still deemed as a flop.

1991’s Robin Hood: Price Of Thieves, which Bryan Adam’s wrote the song, “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You,” for, also garnered mixed reviews, but managed to amass $400 million on a much lower budget.

However, Kevin Costner’s interpretation of Hood was also heavily maligned, whilst special praise was reserved for Morgan Freeman and Alan Rickman as Azeem and the Sheriff of Nottingham respectively.

Ocean’s Eleven, featuring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, was released in 2001, and is a remake of the 1960 film of the same name that starred Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.

Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the movie was well-received and even featured as the 500th best film on Empire magazine’s The 500 Greatest Movies Of All Time list. It has since been followed by two more sequels that were ravaged by critics.
