Sony PS Vita Turns One, Offers Free Games

The Sony PS Vita has turned one and in celebration … free games! Sony has had problems getting their newest handheld to post the sales numbers they had hoped, despite the fact that its only been on the market for a year.

The company has even started cutting the price of the hand-held in Japan and there were rumors it was going to do the same in the United States. While gamers in the US won’t end up seeing that price-cut, they will be getting access to special free games. They will also get some deep discounts on another pile of titles.

IGN reports that the best news about this birthday sale is that it isn’t just for people who are Playstation Plus subscribers. Sony PS Vita users of all stripes will be able to get four games free of charge from March 5 to March 11. Wild Arms (PSone), Patapon, Piyotama, and Patchwork Heroes will all be free downloads starting tomorrow.

The Playstation Blog is showing off the rest of the games that will be able to be purchases at a pretty good savings. These games’ discounts do take into account what kind of customer you are. If you happen to be a Playstation Plus member, the games are half off.

If you are not a Playstation Plus member then you will get a 30 percent discount. Among the games being offered up are Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Spy Hunter, LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7, and LEGO Lord of the Rings as well as others.

Sony is also offering up FIFA Soccer 13 and Madden NFL 13 at a 30 percent discount to regular users and Playstation Plus users alike. Along with these free games and deep discounts, Sony is running a deal through the entire month of March.

For every $50 that gamers spend using their SEN Wallet, they will get $10 back.

Do you think the Sony PS Vita offer of free games and deep discounts will drive up interest in the hand-held?
