Game of Thrones Season 3 is almost here, and to whet your taste for the new episodes, HBO has released an extended version of the Season 3 trailer that debuted last month.
There’s definitely some exciting new footage in the new extended trailer, including scenes between Robb Stark and his new wife Talisa Maegyr, Bran Stark seemingly seeing Jojen Reed for the first time, and a look at some of the many new characters being introduced this season.
Most notably from where I’m sitting, Game of Thrones Season 3 sees the introduction of “King Beyond The Wall” Mance Rayder played by Ciaran Hinds. As a fan myself, Rayder’s introduction is one I’m especially excited about. He has been referenced throughout the seasons thus far, and proves to be a major antagonist in George R.R. Martin’s novels.
Game of Thrones is back on HBO on March 31, and will signal major changes for many fan-favorite characters. Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) has lost his role as Hand of the King, and sports a new facial scar. Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is a captive of the Wildlings, and Ygritte is set to become a romantic interest for the character. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) is still searching for an army to help her invade Westeros and help her reclaim the Iron Throne.
Then, of course, the bully-king Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) for whom Season 3 should promise some “interesting” developments.
A summary of Game of Thrones Season 3 via ComingSoon:
“Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. It will stretch from the south, where heat breeds plots, lust and intrigues; to the vast and savage eastern lands; all the way to the frozen north, where an 800-foot wall of ice protects the kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men…all will play the Game of Thrones.”
