Anne Hathaway Threw ‘A Fit’ Over Amanda Seyfried’s Dress At Oscars

Anne Hathaway reportedly threw “a fit” over Amanda Seyfried’s dress during Oscar rehearsals.

The Les Miserables star reportedly ditched her Valentino dress after she learned that Seyfried was set to wear an outfit that was very similar in design. After making the discovery, Hathaway reportedly decided to make some last-minute changes to her selection.

According to Us Weekly, an insider said the incident took place one day before the 85th Annual Academy Awards. Anne Hathaway allegedly lost her cool after Amanda Seyfried showed the actress a picture of her dress at rehearsals.

Hathaway’s irritation about the situation reportedly spilled over into Sunday. The insider said of the award-winning actress’ behavior:

“Anne made the fashion, makeup, hair and jewelry teams wait at her home for hours as she decided what to do about the dress debacle. [She then] asked for silence so she could rehearse her singing for the ‘Les Mis’ tribute at the Oscars. It was a painfully long experience.”

While the legend of Anne Hathaway’s fit is likely very exaggerated, the actress did issue a statement about the dress switch-up earlier this week. The San Jose Mercury News reports the explanation arrived via her publicist.

Hathaway said:

“It came to my attention late Saturday night that there would be a dress worn to the Oscars that is remarkably similar to the Valentino I had intended to wear, and so I decided it was best for all involved to change my plans.

“Though I love the dress I did wear, it was a difficult last-minute decision as I had so looked forward to wearing Valentino in honor of the deep and meaningful relationship I have enjoyed with the house and with Valentino himself. I deeply regret any disappointment caused.”

The actress ended up wearing a Prada gown that was criticized for being a little too revealing.

Despite allegedly having a fit over her dress, Anne Hathaway ultimately had a great night at the Academy Awards ceremony. She won Best Supporting Actress for her work in Les Miserables.
