Tom Cruise Jets Suri To London For Five Days: Defamation Hearing Told Actor Talks To Her ‘Every Day’
Tom Cruise’s attorney has defended his client’s relationship with his daughter, Suri, at a court trial conference between both sides in Cruise’s $50 million lawsuit against publishers, Bauer Media Group.
Cruise launched the lawsuit last year after Bauer title Life Style magazine ran a story claiming the Oblivion star had “abandoned” Suri after his shock divorce from Katie Holmes.
According to E!, Cruise’s attorney, Bert Fields, has said nothing could be further from the truth. Speaking after a meet and greet with the judge in chambers by both legal teams on Thursday, Fields said of Cruise and Suri:
“He talks to her every day, sometimes many times a day. It’s just the opposite of what they said in the magazine.”
“They are together all the time. He is a very caring father and that is at the heart of this lawsuit,” later adding that Cruise “just adores his child and in fact “adores all his children.”
Although Cruise launched the defamation lawsuit last year, rancor between the actor and Bauer Media stepped up after hefty discovery motions were filed by both sides earlier last month.
As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Cruise’s camp wanted full disclosure about the sources Bauer spoke to in pursuit of their “abandonment” story. In addition, they asked for a history of Bauer’s reporting on Scientology and other items.
Likewise, Bauer Media asked for details about Cruise’s contact with Suri since the split as well as information about the six-year-old’s mental state.
According to Mail Online, the next hearing will take place on April 29, although Bauer attorney Elizabeth McNamara has said that as far as she is concerned the case will not be going to trial.
The attorneys’ statements come just days after Cruise and Suri saw each other in London last week. The little girl was flown from New York to London in the actor’s private jet then brought up to the Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire, People reports.
During their five day stay at the hotel, the reunited pair reportedly “kept such a low profile that nobody really knew she was there.”
The magazine also revealed that although Suri lives full time with her mother in New York City, father and daughter spent time together at Thanksgiving and Christmas last year and Cruise ensures that they communicate daily.
