After Alex Smith Trade, 49ers Reportedly Going After Darrelle Revis

With the trade of Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs, the San Francisco 49ers are now able to retool the team in other areas of need.

San Francisco landed quite a haul when they dealt their now backup quarterback including the Chiefs’ 2nd round pick (34th overall). The team also came equipped with 11 draft picks already, and Yahoo! Sports is reporting that they should get three more picks from free agents they lost last year.

With that much to work with and with a team that is talented from top to bottom, the 49ers can make a run at one of the top defensive players in the game.

Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Niners have current New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis in their sights. Getting Darrelle Revis and making sure that he’s actually happy to be San Francisco could be two different things.

Revis recently went public with his shock and dismay that the Jets were looking to trade him at all. Revis made it clear that he thought he would always be a Jet and seems to wish that the team was giving him some say over whether or not he is shipped out.

Despite the fact that Revis might have to be convinced that the trade would be a good thing, the Niners have reportedly made initial contact with the Jets.

Sources are saying that the team is going to make a very real run at one of the best defensive backs to play the game. San Francisco was just a few points away from winning the Super Bowl with Revis patrolling their defensive backfield.

Jim Harbaugh and company clearly feel as though adding the Pro-Bowler would make their defense something to be reckoned with.

Can the San Francisco 49ers pair their spoils from the Alex Smith trade into something that will convince the Jets to send Revis to the bay?
