Will Ghostbusters 3 be an animated feature? According to the studio, this is just another silly internet rumor.
A report that made the rounds earlier today suggested the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel would be an animated feature. Instead of going the live action route, the characters would continue their adventures as cartoons.
According to SlashFilm, studio execs originally planned to make Ghostbusters 3 as an animated film back in 2007. However, that project never got off the ground.
Like most rumors surrounding this ill-fated project, it turns out the report was untrue. Shock Till You Drop explains that Sony Pictures is moving forward with the live-action sequel as planned. When the film will finally hit the big screen is anybody’s guess.
The studio also said there isn’t an animated feature in the works at all. In other words, nobody is getting a Ghostbusters cartoon anytime soon.
Another rumor suggests that Dan Aykroyd is starting to lose his patience with the studio. CBS Local explains the actor has given Sony an ultimatum regarding Ghostbusters 3. If executives don’t move forward with the film in the next few months, then Aykroyd will take the project to another studio.
Regardless of where the Ghostbusters sequel lands, one this is for certain: Bill Murray isn’t going to be involved. Although a report surfaced last year that the actor had signed on for the project, this ultimately turned out to be a hoax.
During his interview with Esquire, Dan Aykroyd said Murray’s decision to bail on the sequel forced them to rethink the project.
“Had Billy chosen to do the Eisenberg-Stupnitsky script of two years ago, it would be out this summer, and it would be a massive hit. If Billy had said yes, it would have satisfied his performance and what he wanted in the movie, it would have satisfied his performing skill and how he wanted to be depicted in the movie, it would have satisfied the studio, the writers who wrote it, everybody.”
Do you think Ghostbusters 3 will ever happen?
