Carrie Fisher Hospitalized: ‘Star Wars’ Actress Receiving Treatment For Bipolar Disorder

Carrie Fisher was hospitalized this week in order to undergo treatment for bipolar disorder.

The exact reason for the Star Wars actress’ hospitalization is unknown but her rep said that there was a “medical incident” related to Fisher’s bipolar disorder. The rep told TMZ that Fisher needed to “adjust her medication” and is now “feeling much better.”

Fisher’s hospitalization came shortly after giving a bizarre performance on a Caribbean cruise ship. Fisher, who appears to be drunk in the video, can be seen singing off-key while cleaning up her dog’s droppings.

Her rep said:

“There was a medical incident related to Carrie Fisher’s bipolar disorder. She went to the hospital briefly to adjust her medication and is feeling much better now.”

Fisher has openly talked about her struggles with depression and bipolar disorder. The actress, who is currently rumored to be joining the new Star Wars cast, told Diane Sawyer in 2000:

“I used to think I was a drug addict, pure and simple — just someone who could not stop taking drugs willfully … And I was that. But it turns out that I am severely manic depressive.”

Are you surprised that the cruise ship debacle was related to Carrie Fisher’s medication?
