With no MLB contract, Manny Ramirez has agree to play in Taiwan this season

Manny Ramirez Will Play In Taiwan

Manny Ramirez plans to play baseball in Taiwan this season.

The slugger still hopes to sign an MLB contract, but right now he is set to take his talents to Taiwan.

Over his American career Manny Ramirez hit 555 home runs and was an All Star 12 times. Late in his career he failed to make the A’s major league roster and he got caught in a steroid scandal.

Manny Ramirez recently spoke to ESPN Deportes and revealed he has made a verbal agreement to play with the EDA Rhinos this season. He says he will wait until March 7 to get a major league offer. If none is made he will officially sign with the Rhinos and play in Taiwan.

Last season Manny Ramirez actually came out of retirement to play for Oakland. While in their minor league system he hit .302 with 14 RBI’s in 17 games. He asked for his release after it became clear Oakland did not plan to promote him to the majors.

At 40-years-old, Ramirez played in the Domican League this past winter to try and garner MLB attention. He hit .298 with eight home runs and 27 RBI’s over 181 plate appearances. So far no team has come calling.

It’s all but certain Manny Ramirez will play in Taiwan this season. His new team, the EDA Rhinos, play in the China Professional Baseball League.

No details have been released on what the Rhinos will be paying Ramirez, but it is probably less than he would be offered by an MLB team.

After a storied 19 year career that saw him labeled a diva and a cheater, it appears Manny Ramirez just wants to prove he can play. Unfortunately for him, it looks like his days of playing Major League Baseball are gone.

Are you surprised Manny Ramirez will play in Taiwan this season to continue his career?
