Robin The Boy Wonder Killed In Batman Incorporated! DC Comics Needs Ideas?

Robin the Boy Wonder is killed in the Batman Incorporated No. 8 issue to be published this Wednesday. This is not the first time that DC Comics has killed Robin the Boy Wonder, but it’s the first time when Robin has been so popular. Perhaps comic book fans should be asking themselves if DC Comics is running out of fresh ideas?

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Robin will die in a fight with an assassin and, in true comic book fashion, Robin’s foe is actually a clone using own DNA. The current incarnation of Robin is fan favorite Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s 10-year-old son, who is his illegitimate child with Talia, the daughter of arch enemy Ra’s al Ghul, and who was trained by the League of Assassins.

DC Comics has a history of killing Robin. The kicker is that none of the previous dead Robins have actually stayed dead. The Jason Todd version of Robin as written by Jim Starlin was not well received by fans so DC Comics held a telephone poll to determine whether or not the character would die at the hands of the Joker. Robin died, only to be resurrected as antihero Red Hood. The female version of Robin, Stephanie Brown, was supposedly tortured to death by the Black Mask, but then we find out the Girl Wonder faked her own death.

Given this history, there is the real possibility that the new death of Robin the Boy Wonder is just intended to shock fans who liked Damian and garner interest in future issues. Who is to say the Damian version of Robin will stay dead? After all, we’re talking about the grandson of Ra’s al Ghul, who went out of his way to resurrect Jason Todd with the Lazarus Pit. I have not seen the Batman Incorporated issue, nor the manner in which Robin the Boy Wonder is killed this time, but I don’t see why DC Comics can’t figure out a semi-logical workaround to bring back Damian from the dead.

After all, according to the New York Post DC Comics writer Grant Morrison had this to say about the potential return of Robin:

“You can never say never in a comic book . . . Batman will ultimately always have a partner.”

So, with Robin the Boy Wonder killed in Batman Incorporated, do you feel that DC Comics is running out of fresh ideas? Or perhaps the fresh idea is to actually have Robin stay dead for once.
