Highest paid athletes of 2009

Well here we are the final week of 2009, with that in mind all week we shall be taking a look at the 2009 world of sports. To start our look here is a top ten list of the highest paid athletes of the year that was 2009.

1. Alex Rodriguez, New York Yankees, 33 million- Dude made 33 million, and that doesn’t include any endorsement deal, oh wait does he still have any. So what did Mister A-Rod accomplish this year, a steroids controversy, a messy divorce, and a World Championship. I guess 33 million does buy a lot, especially for the gossip rags, and TMZ.

2. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers, 27.7 million- I guess he is worth it, since he has won two super bowls now, but his career hangs in jeopardy since he has had three NFL related concussions, and another bouncing his head of the pavement after wrecking his bike. I wonder if the Steelers paid him this much and took his motor scooter away?

3. Kevin Garnett, Boston Celtics, 24.8 million- This guy spent how many years wasting away in Minnesota? He is worth every penny, from his effort on the court to his ability to bring in the fans.

4. Manny Ramirez, Los Angeles Dodgers, 23.9 million- Does one have to take steroids, or other banned substances to make this list?

5. Derek Jeter, New York Yankees, 21.6 million- It should surprise no one that the Yankees have two people on this list. The actual surprise is they don’t have more.

6. Jason Kidd, Dallas Mavericks, 21.4 million- I can’t think of anything clever to say about this one

7. Jermaine O’Neil, Toronto Raptors, 21.4 million- This is kind of surprising that the Raptors had 21 million dollars to pay anyone, as a native Detroiter this guy is not amongst my favorite athletes.

8. Kobe Bryant, LA Lakers, 21.3 million dollars- It seems forcing some one to have sex with you, is not as bad as Tiger Woods having sex with ya know half the female employees of the Applebee’s. What kind of world do we live in?

9. Jared Allen, Minnesota Vikings, 21.1 million- It seems his pay was a dollar per sack. This guy is amazing, and a big reason why the Vikings have had such a good 2009 season.

10. Allen Iverson, Detroit Pistons, 20.8 million- This is the sad state of Detroit Sports, the highest paid Detroit athlete was a malcontent that never wanted to be here in the first place. Oh yeah and he was banned from all three Detroit casinos. Having a million dollars does not make one a millionaire.
