‘Paperman’ Oscar Winner Thrown Out For Dropping Paper Airplanes

Paperman Oscar winner Kristina Reed was thrown out of Hollywood’s biggest night for some childish behavior — throwing paper airplanes during the ceremony, much like in the winning short.

The Paperman Oscar winner was escorted out during the ceremonies when her paper airplane stunt was not kindly looked upon by security. In a “life imitates art” type scenario, Reed first garnered scorn for the paper airplane throwing — much like in the acclaimed short — before a happy ending intervened. So Disney.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Paperman Oscar winner created a tribute to the popular animated title during Oscar goings-on — and invited the ire of security:

“After Disney’s Paperman won the Academy Award for best animated short Sunday, producer Kristina Reed began throwing paper airplanes, about three or four — with kisses on them, like the ones seen in the film — from her seat in the mezzanine … The paper planes were nowhere near the stage, instead shooting straight down from the balcony. It went largely unnoticed by the crowd, but security didn’t think the act was very sweet, kicking her out of the Dolby Theatre auditorium.”

Reed’s booting was, alas, short-lived. The Paperman winner only remained ejected from the proceedings on Oscar night for five or ten minutes.

Most news sources report a “short protest,” but it isn’t clear whether Reed alone complained or others intervened to broker her readmission to the Oscars after the paper airplane brouhaha.

If you missed Paperman before its Oscar win (or ahead of Wreck It Ralph in theaters), you can watch the Academy Award-winning short below.
