‘Cloud Atlas’ To Hit Blu-Ray This May

Directors Tom Tykwer, Andy Wachowski, and Lana Wachowski’s sci-fi drama Cloud Atlas is scheduled to hit Blu-ray this May.

The latest motion picture experience from the creators of The Matrix failed to find an audience when it landed in theaters last year. Despite receiving mostly positive reviews from critics, not a lot of people were willing to pay money to see the film on the big screen.

However, Warner Bros. Pictures is certainly hoping the movie will connect with viewers when it finally arrives on home video this May. Although the film ultimately recouped its estimated $100 million production when worldwide receipts are tallied, the studio is hoping to generate some extra cash with the Blu-ray release.

Those who decide to pick up the high-definition version of Cloud Atlas can expect to drop around $35.99 to bring the experience home. According to The Celebrity Cafe, the DVD edition of the flick carries a suggested retail price of $28.98.

The studio officially and cryptically describes the film as follows:

“‘Cloud Atlas’ explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future. Action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution in the distant future. Each member of the ensemble appears in multiple roles as the stories move through time.”

Cinema Blend explains that the Blu-ray edition of Cloud Atlas will feature a number of extras. In addition to deleted scenes, those who pick up the flick in hi-def will also receive a variety of behind-the-scenes documentaries. Unfortunately, the DVD gets one lonely featurette.

The extended trailer for the film has been embedded below.

Cloud Atlas features a staggering number of A-list talent, including Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugo Weaving, Jim Sturgess, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, James D’Arcy, Xun Zhou, Keith David, David Gyasi, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant. The film is slated to hit Blu-ray, DVD, and digital download on May 14.
