Big Boobs: Breast Augmentations Triple In Last 16 Years, Popular In Red States
Big Boobs via breast augmentation surgery has gained much popularity, especially in Red States. Between 1997 and 2011 the number of breast augmentation surgeries tripled in popularity.
New data released by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons indicates that big boobs are more popular than ever. Over 16 years there were around 1.2 million breast augmentation surgeries by plastic surgeons, accounting for 18.9 percent of all invasive plastic surgeries and ranking big boobs at number two. The American popular is around 314 million, so that means at least around 0.3 percent of the population, or one out of 300 people, have received breast augmentation surgeries.
Americans apparently really care about the appearance of their breasts. And it’s not just women getting surgeries. Breast lifts, breast reductions, and man boob removals all dominate the top 10. According to other data from 2011 from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the rate of breast implant surgeries has exploded in the past decade, growing from 101,176 performed in 1997 to 316,848 in 2011. The only invasive plastic surgery procedure to beat breast augmentation was lipoplasty, which means to suction the fat out of targeted spots on people.
According to Slate, bigger breasts via breast augmentation surgery seems to be more popular in Red States, suggesting that conservatives like their women to be curvaceous:
“Statistics do suggest that red states are fonder of breast implants than blue states, at least East Coast blue states. Maybe cup size is becoming just another one of those things, like car size or computer manufacturer preference, where Americans are getting more polarized. I eagerly await the first politician who delivers the line, ‘We are not A-cup Americans and DD-cup Americans. We are all just Americans, who love breasts.’”
The rising popularity is also because in 2006 the FDA allowed silicone breast implants back onto the market after discovering the health concerns were unfounded. According to CBS, the FDA just approved a “gummy bear” silicone breast implant called the Natrelle 410 that is more firmer and natural.
Why do you think Americans seem to like big boobs via breast augmentation plastic surgery?
