Hill Harper Leaves ‘CSI:NY’ For ‘Covert Affairs’

Hill Harper will be leaving CBS’s CSI:NY to join the fourth season of USA’s Covert Affairs.

Harper will be joining stars Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorham, Peter Gallagher and Kari Matchett as a series regular in the spy drama.

According to Deadline, Harper’s deal with CSI: NY was up at the end of the ninth season, and he decided to move on to another project. TV editor Nellie Andreeva reports that Harper initially considered TV pilots but ultimately decided he wanted to join a cable series that was already on the air.

The season finale of CSI:NY will premiere Friday, although the episode may end up being a series finale as it is unlikely that the police procedural will be returning for a tenth season. Should the series get canceled, it will leave the original CSI by itself on the air. CSI: Miami was canceled last May after 10 seasons. The original series is currently in its 13th season.

According to TV by the Numbers, Harper will play a CIA station chief based in Latin America who is trying to work his way into a bigger position in Washington, D.C. His character attempts to align himself with Annie (Perabo) and Auggie (Gorham), but the two become suspicious of his intentions.

The third season of Covert Affairs premiered on July 10, 2012, with the finale airing November 20. The series was renewed for a fourth season on September 25, and is set to premiere in the summer.
