Billy Corgan Promotes Wrestling, Furniture In Bizarre New Ad [Video]

Billy Corgan used to be the frontman for the influential rock band the Smashing Pumpkins. Now he’s a wrestling-furniture salesman.

The Smashing Pumpkins have been in a state of flux for the last decade. But despite all of the retirements, reunions, and lineup changes, the Chicago rocker has been able to keep busy. Not with making music, but with starting his own wrestling company.

Corgan’s Resistance Pro Wrestling may not get a lot of press on its own, but Corgan has devised a genius marketing plan to get the word out about his company: Use furniture.

Corgan partnered with Walter E. Smithe, a Chicago area furniture maker, to create this bizarre double internet ad.

The ad starts with Corgan playing musical chairs with a bunch of guys in suits. The 6’3? rocker gets bullied by one of his musical chair buddies, so he decides to call in his wrestling minions. The Resistance Pro Wrestlers start wreaking havoc in the ring. Everything is going fine until one of the wrestlers tries to use a chair on his opponent.

Billy chimes in: Hey, that’s a Walter E. Smithe chair.

Here’s the bizarre wrestling-furniture ad featuring Billy Corgan.
