Comcast has banned all ads which feature guns and firearms. Gun retailers and fans of outdoor sportsman shows on the network are not happy. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Comcast just recently acquired NBC Universal. The SHOT Show, one of the largest gun shows in America, noted NBC as one of its largest sponsors.

Williams Gun Sight and Outfitters, a Michigan-based company, contacted The Blaze to share their angst about the quietly conducted commercial policy change. The promotions company which handles marketing for Williams Gun Sight and Outfitters stated they were told they could not re-air an advertisement they played on the network last fall due to the new no guns allowed policy. Tom Wright, the gun company president, called the Comcast gun commercial ban “ridiculous,” according to ABC News.

hen the Canadian American Corporation tried to buy advertising, a Comcast staffer reportedly informed the long-time customer that the network stopped allowing air-time for companies that promote weapons and fireworks on February 8.

John Kupiec, advertising president of the Canadian American Corporation, had this to say about Comcast turning away gun retailers:

“They’ve [client] been a long-time advertiser but they [Comcast] said it doesn’t matter who they are. If they sell firearms they will not be allowed to advertise firearms on their airwaves. My company has been in the advertising business for well over 30 years and we’ve never remotely run into a situation where a product or service was banned from being on the airwaves that’s legal.”

A statement from the Comcast communications department confirmed the ban on gun commercials. The release noted that advertising requests for guns and weapons will no longer be accepted. The network claims that the new policy created guidelines that are already in place at “many media organizations.”
