Mindy McCready May Have Been Under Investigation For Boyfriend’s Murder At Time Of Her Suicide

Mindy McCready was under police scrutiny in the shooting death of her boyfriend just weeks before her own suicide, law enforcement officials have said.

McCready’s boyfriend, David Wilson, died a few weeks ago of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, but police found inconsistencies in the story McCready told about his death.

“At first, she said she hadn’t heard the gunshot because the TV was too loud. Then she said she had heard the gunshot,” a source told People magazine. “So obviously there were a lot of questions, and the Sheriff was asking for clarification.”

Police had reportedly planned to interview Mindy McCready again, but on Sunday she was found dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. Her body was found in the Heber Springs, Arkansas, house just feet from where Wilson died.

New reports suggest that McCready also killed her dog before committing suicide. The dog was found laying next to McCready’s body, The Associated Press reported.

Though the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office has already made a statement declaring Mindy McCready’s death a suicide, Wilson’s case is still surrounded by uncertainty. A coroner has yet to establish his cause and manner of death, and the only report that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted came from McCready’s publicist, not a law enforcement source.

For police, the strange answers and circumstances surrounding Wilson’s death drew more attention to Mindy McCready.

“At no point did [police] tell her she was a suspect, and she wasn’t officially one,” the source told People. “But she knew that some of her answers didn’t stand up to questioning. She was very cooperative, but she just wasn’t making a lot of sense.”

With Mindy McCready’s suicide, police may never know just what circumstances surrounded David Wilson’s death.
