World’s First Car Backflip Landed By French Stuntman Guerlain Chicherit [Video]

There aren’t too many people who can say that they’ve done a backflip in their car. In fact, there might only be one. French stuntman Guerlain Chicherit claims that he has completed the world’s first car backflip.

According to Stuff Magazine, Chicherit was driving a modified Mini Countryman John Cooper Works SUV. The car may have been highly modified, but there were no special tricks done to the track. Chicherit said that he did his backflip “without the aid of a special ramp with moving elements to boost the car’s rotational movement.”

The Daily Mail reports that the jump happened this weekend at the the French ski resort of Tignes in the Alps. Chicherit completed the jump during a private test on Sunday morning and then again that afternoon in front of thousands of people.

The rally star said:

“Before the jump it was crazy. I was alone in the car before the start and I just had to do it, everything was ready. I had to arrive at 60kph [37mph] and be full throttle in the kicker to get the right rotation. In the jump, I knew the balance of the car was good and it took me maybe 20 seconds to realise I had landed on my wheels.”

Here’s the video of the world’s first car backflip.
