Now that Allen is in charge, Redskins have real work to do

Now that Bruce Allen is the man in charge of the Washington Redskins, the real work for this franchise can begin. The good news is they will likely have a top ten draft pick to get the process started, the bad news for a team with four wins they have questions all over their roster. First thing first Allen has to find his man in head coach, and insure that they can remain on the same page. A lot of the Redskins problems, at least in 2009, are due to the fact the former head man Vinny Cerrato and Head Coach Jim Zorn didn’t get along. That point was exemplified when Cerrato resigned and thanked several Redskin personnel and left out Zorn.

More than likely Allen will hire former Denver Broncos Coach Mike Shanahan. There were rumors that Allen was to become the football czar in Buffalo, and it had planned to bring Shanahan with him there. If Allen hires Shanahan he has to make sure that they can coexist together and work towards rebuilding this team right.

On the field the first big decision that has to be made is if Jason Campbell is a franchise QB, or if this is a position that needs to be upgraded. If they determine that he is not their guy, finding a suitable replacement will not be easy. The 2010 draft is not a great one for QB’s and trading for a veteran will cost this team picks it needs to address other areas.

The best way to improve this team for 2010 would be to fix the Offensive Line. The ‘Skins have some descent skill players in RB Clinton Portis, WR Santana Moss, and TE Chris Cooley, but their inconsistent line play has limited the effectives of their offense. This is where the news gets better for the ‘Skins, there are at least four Offensive line prospects that are legitimate first round picks coming in next April’s NFL draft.
