Was Oscar Pistorius On Steroids? Police Find Performance Enhancers In Home

Johannesburg, South Africa – Oscar Pistorius will reportedly be tested for steroids after the banned drug was found at his home.

Pistorius is accused of murdering his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day last week. He will appear in court again on Tuesday, and his agents recently cancelled his future engagements, which included five upcoming races.

The newest development in the case regards Pistorius’ possible use of steroids. Police are asking for blood taken from the Paralympic runner to be tested for steroids, reportedly in anticipation of a possible defense claim that he acted under the influence of performance-enhancing drugs. You know, “roid rage.”

A source told The Sun, “Steroid drugs were found at Pistorius’s home together with evidence of heavy drinking. That’s why police have specifically ordered that he be tested for steroids.”

Police had no comment on the matter, reports The Telegraph.

It seems like a dubious report to me for several reasons. I don’t know much about South African police procedure, but I would think that steroid testing is just called “covering your bases” and doing good investigation.

As to the allegations of “roid rage,” why exactly would Pistorius’ defense try to argue temporary insanity due to the ‘roids? That either means that the case is so impossibly stacked against him that he’s willing to sacrifice his career Lance Armstrong-style to stay out of prison, or his defense team is just plain stupid.

Furthermore, steroids? What? Another highly successful and beloved “hero” athlete using performance enhancers? When will it end?

Do you think that Oscar Pistorius murdered his girlfriend? Was he on steroids?
