New Mariah Carey Song ‘Almost Home’ Set To Hit Radio

A brand new Mariah Carey song is scheduled for release to radio later this week.

Carey recorded the song, Almost Home, for the Disney film Oz The Great and Powerful. Released as a single by the Island Def Jam label, the song is slated to hit radio on February 19. Almost Home will also be made available through iTunes.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Almost Home was recorded at Roc The Mic Studios in California. The song showcases the strength behind the Grammy winner’s mid-range vocal abilities rather than relying on her signature high octave range.

In a statement Mariah Carey described the new song:

“It’s a feel-good record. It gives you the feeling of reaching your home and being with people that you love.”

According to Disney’s press release for Almost Home, the studio will partner with Carey for a promotional campaign to support both the movie and single. Award-winning photographer and director David LaChapelle, will direct a forthcoming video for the song.

LaChapelle, who has worked extensively with Carey in the past, describes the video as “a duet between Mariah and the movie.”

Oz The Great and Powerful, directed by Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Spider-Man), “imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character.” Scheduled to hit US theaters on March 8, the film stars James Franco (Spider-Man, 127 Hours).

Also included in the cast are Mila Kunis (Black Swan, Ted), Rachel Weisz (The Mummy, The Fountain), and Michelle Williams (Shutter Island, Blue Valentine).

In addition to the new Mariah Carey song Almost Home, fans can look forward to a new album scheduled for release this spring.
