Security Guard Fends Off Armed Hold-Up With AR-15 [Video]

Detroit shootout

Inkster, MI – A tax preparation center in the Detroit area turned into the O.K. Corral a few days ago when two armed robbers were successfully fended off by a security guard carrying an AR-15 rifle. Miraculously, no one was killed or seriously injured.

WJBK reports that a manhunt for a “Bonnie and Clyde” couple is underway after security footage caught them attempting to hold up a home that had been converted into a tax preparation business this week. The couple were both armed with pistols, and stormed into the Inkster business with the secretary and business owner quickly taking cover.

In the back office, a security guard lunged for an AR-15 rifle, and managed to squeeze off two shots, scaring the bandits away. He chased them to the door, and they both fled in separate directions.

Police say that they don’t believe the armed couple were injured, and they remain at large. The security guard sustained an injury to his leg, but has since been released from the hospital with a clean bill of health, reports The Blaze.

“The security guard that was inside returned fire, two shots at the suspect. Did not hit him. The suspects then fled the location,” said Inkster Police Detective Lieutenant Jeffrey Smith, who noted, “There was quite a few people inside the location. Very lucky that nobody was seriously injured. The security guard did suffer a wound to the upper leg area, but he’s going to be okay.”

“I am grateful that everybody was able to walk away and wiggle their toes and their fingers and still breathe. I’m happy to be here,” said the security guard involved in the shootout, who asked to remain nameless. “I’m not happy we’re still looking for the individuals.”

He’s putting up $1,000 of his own money as a reward to anyone who comes forward with information that leads to the capture of the two criminals.

“We have to make a stand against violence and these types of activities, so I’m very adamant about bring these people to justice,” he said.

Readers will no doubt politicize the footage of the robbery, with gun rights advocates seeing it as proof that AR-15s can be used to successfully prevent gun violence, injury, and gun-related death. However, gun control activists might point out that the AR-15 was brandished by a trained security guard and maintain that citizens shouldn’t have access to such weaponry.

Whatever side you fall on, hopefully we can all agree that at the very least, anyone who has an AR-15 should be trained to use it properly.

The political leaning of this reporter is undeniable! "Readers will no doubt politicize the footage of the robbery, with gun rights advocates seeing it as proof that AR-15s can be used to successfully prevent gun violence." and " gun control activists might point out that the AR-15 was brandished by a trained security guard and maintain that citizens shouldn’t have access to such weaponry." A) I question the "training" the security guard had, as from his maneuvering within the building and the fact that he didn't hit anything but a wall, his "training" seems laughable. B) A trained security guard *is* a citizen. They aren't soldiers, nor are local nor state police. They are "civilian authority", or in the case of this security guard, a paid security representative. My question would be with all the existing Draconian laws on the books in Detroit to prohibit firearm carry and ownership, how did Thuggybear and his woman get firearms, and would new laws suddenly stop them from having them, or is safe to say existing laws are ineffective and so would any new ones?

Even shot in the leg this security guard with a gun was able to stop a robbery and possibly a mass shooting. Proof that as soon as you shoot back the criminals vacate the premises as quickly as possible. Amazing how little THEY want to get shot and how little they care about shooting YOU. Anyone know that security guards name I'd like to send him a couple of bucks.

I have to say as a U.S. Army veteran, licensed (armed) security officer in Florida and tactical instructor, I'm very happy that the officer suffered only a minor injury and no bystanders were injured. Speaking from that vantage point also, I have to say that I felt the officer's fire discipline was quite poor and I would have been embarrassed to have that performance caught on video. I'm not sure how much training that officer received with that weapon beforehand but, I know that if I were him, I'd be investing in some range time and a couple of classes with that weapon. Yes, I understand that he was "stressed" and returning fire. He returned undirected fire into an occupied waiting area, however. Again, happy that the officer is okay as well as the bystanders.
