Oscar winner Jennifer Jones dies at 90 in LA


Jennifer Jones, who won an Oscar in 1943 for her role in The Song of Bernadette, died at the her home in Malibu today.

Jones was also the widow of industrialist and art collector Norton Simon, who met the actress in 1971 when he was 64 and she was 52. Jones was previously married to producer David O. Selznick and Robert Walker. At the height of her career, Jones appeared in films opposite actors including Gregory Peck, John Garfield, Charlton Heston, Laurence Olivier, Montgomery Clift, Humphrey Bogart, William Holden, Robert Stack and Rock Hudson.

Jones was mother to three children, Robert Walker, Jr. and Michael Walker with husband Robert Walker, and daughter Mary Jennifer Selznick with David O. Selznick. Jones’ daughter Mary became severely depressed after the death of her father and committed suicide at the age of 21 in a fall from a 22-story building in Los Angeles. Mary’s troubles lead Jones to become involved in mental health issues later in her life.

Jones is survived by her two living children.
