Connecticut Man Pulls Wife To Hospital On Makeshift Sled

Naugatuck, CN – A Connecticut man pulled his pregnant wife to the hospital to give birth on a makeshift sled. James and Lauri Woods already have four children. The newest addition to the clan apparently did not want to wait until the roads were clear to come out and join the world.

When the Nemo blizzard hit, about 3 feet of snow fell in Naugtauck. The Woods’ family car was buried beneath the chilly white stuff. Faced with his wife giving birth at home, James got creative. The Connecticut father used a neighbor’s car luggage carrier as a makeshift sled, MSN notes.

After some friends from the neighborhood helped turn the luggage carrier into a sled, Lauri and James Woods were finally off to the hospital. Four friends helped James pull the his pregnant wife in the luggage rack sled. Lauri was in labor as James pulled her more than 1,000 feet to the nearest cleared road.

The proud poppa has this to say about giving his wife a ride to Waterbury Hospital on a makeshift sled:

“If you walked it today, it’s not that much, but with all that snow, pulling a pregnant woman … it’s not as easy as it seems.”

Although James did have a tough job, most would agree that Lauri had the most difficult task of the day – childbirth. Lauri noted that she was in the bathroom in tears when labor hit and she realized something a mundane as going for a ride in the car was not possible. She also stated that she was slipping all over the place when her escorts tried to maneuver the makeshift sled around a corner, according to NBC News.

Thanks to the efforts of the doting dad and a crew of pals, Lauri made it to the hospital an hour before the baby arrived. Both mother and her newest bundle of joy, Jimmy, are doing just fine.
