Newark, NJ – A teenager was forced to strip naked and then was repeatedly whipped with a belt because his father apparently didn’t pay off a $20 debt.
The street beating was captured on cell phone video as the alleged attacker and bystanders laughed, and Newark police are now investigating.
According to the New Jersey Star Ledger:
“For 90 seconds, the boy is mercilessly whipped with the belt while the group continues to laugh at him, demanding he tell the camera that it’s a ‘dog eat dog world.’
“At the end of the video, someone announces the amount of money that sparked the vicious attack — a measly $20 …
“Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio said he was infuriated by the video and dispatched three separate detective squads to find the man holding the belt in the clip, which he called ‘sickening.’
” ‘You don’t know how bad I want to see the kid who did that taken into custody,’ he said.”
Investigators are apparently probing one or more Twitter accounts that may be associated with the video.
According to an update from CNN, three suspects have apparently now been taken into custody:
“Three men were charged for aggravated assault, conspiracy, possession of a weapon, and robbery after they allegedly stole $20 from the victim. A 25-year-old woman who was present during the attack has also been arrested on drug charges, which include alleged ‘possession of 20 bricks of heroin.’ “
Cory Booker, the mayor of Newark who is trying to run for US Senate, called he incident “shocking” and added that his city does “not tolerate this level of cruelty.”

Isaiah- are you a fucking idiot?! It doesn't matter what it's called- a "Rave" or whatever. It's child abuse. The "victim" may have walked off, but I counted at least 32 times of the belt hitting the boy, so I defy you to tell me he "wasn't hurt much." You may have lived a privileged life where you were never hit. I didn't have that luxury. I remember the bruises. I still have the scars. It doesn't matter if he wasn't hurt badly physically, but you had better believe that mentally and emotionally, the boy is badly injured.

This was the one of the most inhumane acts I have ever seen and I worked in the field of child abuse for years and saw a lot. This was cruelty at its worst and I hope that they round up the main culprit and then the others and put them out of their misery! How barbaric!
