13-Year-Old ‘Newborn': Adopted Boy’s Photo Wish Goes Viral

13-Year-Old Adopted Boy

A 13-year-old adopted boy’s wish to have photos of himself as a newborn child has gone viral and touched the internet community.

Most people have at least a few, if not many, photos of themselves from childhood. Parents often have professional photographers snap shots of their newborns in dreamy and sweet repose.

Unfortunately, some adults find themselves without any visual reminders of childhood years. This is especially true for adopted children, who often miss out on the opportunity to look back on their youth through pictures.

NBC News writes that this was the case for 13-year-old Latrell Higgins, who was adopted at the age of 10 alongside his younger sister Chanya. The boy recently expressed his sadness at the absence of his own baby pictures to his adoptive mother.

The Higgins family decided there was a way they could remedy the situation, at least to a degree. A plan was devised in which Kelli Higgins, the boy’s mother and a professional photographer, would create “new” newborn photos of Latrell. She recalls her feelings at the time:

“I was very sad too because I didn’t have any photos of him either. I think it’s really hard to have children and not know what they looked like when they were younger.”

The Daily Mail writes that there was a healthy dose of humor surrounding the idea as well. The family joked at the idea of the 13-year-old striking typical infant poses, and the photo shoot itself brought hysterical laughter.

The resulting pictures show Latrell swaddled, sleeping, and sweetly posing just as a newborn would. While the concept is amusing, the photos are actually quite beautiful and serene. However, the humor is evident in the caption his mother wrote when she posted them to Facebook:

“Here’s my sweet not so little newborn! His name is Latrell and weighs 112 lbs.”

The fulfillment of Latrell’s wish has brought the family an overwhelming response from people across the internet. The photos have gone viral on Facebook with thousands of likes. The Higgins family hopes that it will raise awareness for the adoption of older children.

Kelly Higgins talked about the response:

“[Parents] come to me telling me that they were thinking about adopting a baby, but after seeing those photos it’s changed their minds and they want to adopt an older child.”

What do you think of the adopted 13-year-old boy’s newborn photos?

How sweet! What a lucky kid to get such a totally clever mother, too!

Glad they did something however I am one in the situation where I have no baby pictures or pictures of when I was little because they were all burned and I think this was a little out there. Don't see how it's news worthy but glad it made them happy.

That is the sweetest thing ever. I love it! Good for the people who are able to adopt. All children deserve to be loved and cherished. <3

It's news worthy because it generates a good vibe in the heart and is something that many people have never thought of before. I'm sorry about your loss of baby pictures. Something similar happened in our family, if that helps. We kept records and pictures of ancestors for years and it was all lost as well.

Best idea EVER! Congratulations to Latrell and Chanya! Happy Life!

This is retarded. Waste of time and money. Use the money you paid for this photo shoot and donate it to a boys and girls home. Or help support another orphan. The kid looks absolutely ridiculous posing for these pictures.

OK "yoeyoepuff". You should spend more time doing good in the world and less time insulting people online. This is a wonderful way to celebrate his adoption and a new beginning.

CM, it's a human interest story and it is news-worthy to many. I was not adopted, but if I was, I would have loved to have my adopted parents do something like this. I think it's inspiring and a nice departure from the crap that we here on the news everyday. You can't have 100% gravity in this world. It would mess you up.

Yoeyoepuff. You sound bitter. This woman already did a lot by adopting two children who were older than the ideal age for adoptees. She has nothing more to prove and it's her money. She can do whatever she wants with it. You're one of those people who will always be critical, no matter what

I really feel for this 13 year old! Not to have any baby pictures at all? His Mom and family are so wonderful for being so understanding and feeling the same way. What she did was HUGE for this child!

You sound pretty damn immature using the word "retarded"—just shows how limited your vocabulary and mind are. Trolls like you always try and throw shade on anything that's positive, mainly because you got nothing better to do and nowhere to even do it in.
