President Barack Obama lured many celebrities to his campaign with the promise of climate change regulations. Now, Adam Levine, Alec Baldwin, Morgan Freeman, and other supporters are demanding that the POTUS take initiative as promised.
On Monday, the Sierra Club called on the Obama administration via a full page ad in the political newspaper The Hill.
Among other members to sign the petition were Susan Sarandon, Woody Harrelson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Edward Norton, Darren Aronofsky, and Yoko Ono.
The letter reads:
“Your legacy as 44th president of the United States rests firmly on your leadership on climate disruption. Only the president has the power to lead an effort on the scale and with the urgency we need to phase out fossil fuels and lead America, and the world, in a clean energy revolution.”
The group released the letter just ahead of the ForwardOnClimate rally scheduled on February 17.
The celebrities who signed the petition are all active campaigners for climate change controls. For example, Susan Sarandon and Yoko Ono have protested hydraulic fracturing for natural gas in New York.
President Obama isn’t exactly fighting against Hollywood celebs. The presidents gun control platform was backed up by some of the biggest names in entertainment. Even President Joe Biden has gained Hollywood’s support for his fight to improve mental healthcare throughout the United States.
The Obama administration has not yet replied to the open letter published by the Sierra Club.
Do you think President Obama need to be more actively engaged with climate changed laws during his second term?
