Martin Scorsese Will Produce Luc Besson’s ‘Malavita’

Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese will produce French director Luc Besson’s upcoming action flick Malavita.

EuropaCorp and Relativity Media are currently in the process of bringing Besson’s latest motion picture to the big screen. According to the official press release, Scorsese will serve as Executive Producer on the gangster movie.

Adapted and directed by Luc Besson, the film tells the story of “a notorious mafia family who gets relocated to Normandy, France under the witness protection program. While they do their best to fit in, old habits die hard and they soon find themselves handling things the ‘family’ way.” Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tommy Lee Jones, Dianna Agron, and John D’Leo star.

The Fifth Element director adapted the screenplay from author Tonino Benacquista’s 2010 novel Badfellas.

The book’s official synopsis reads:

“Under cover of darkness, an American family moves into a villa in Cholong-sur-Avre in Normandy. Fred Blake, the father, tells everyone he is there to write a history of the Allied landings. His wife Maggie gets involved in a local charity; their teenage children enrol in the lycee. At first glance a family like any other. But Fred’s real name is Giovanni Manzoni — an ex-Mafia boss who has grassed and is now part of the FBI’s witness-protection program. And his record in other locations would indicate that his cover is not likely to last very long.”

Besson is expected to have Malavita signed, sealed, and delivered into theaters by October 13. This is certainly one to keep a close eye on.

Martin Scorsese is currently putting the finishing touches on The Wolf of Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, and Matthew McConaughey. The film explores what happens when a New York stockbroker gets involved in Wall Street corruption.
