Lehigh Acres, FL — A man accidentally shot himself in the groin with a flare gun and was transported to the hospital for treatment for multiple burns and lacerations.
The injured man was identified in several media accounts as Jorge Perez, 23. Perez reportedly told responding Lee County sheriff’s deputies that he thought the flare gun was unloaded before he suffered wounds to the genital area on Sunday.
CBS Tampa Bay explained what happened next when officers responded to a request for medical assistance:
“After pretending to fire the weapon multiple times, [Perez] reportedly loaded the gun before setting it down for awhile. When he returned to play with the weapon again, he had forgotten that it was no longer unloaded.
“Perez allegedly fired the gun at the ground, causing the flare he had previous loaded to hit the floor and ricochet back into his groin.”
The Florida man’s injuries are apparently less serious than what occurred in a recent gun incident involving a Brazilian security guard. As The Inquisitr previously reported, the security guard accidentally shot off his penis with an illegal gun and suffering the tragic gunshot wound, the guard now faces criminal charges for the possession of an illegal firearm.
Back in September 2012, a Port. St. Lucie, Florida, man shot himself in the penis while cleaning a gun he had purchased at a party.
