Kristen Wiig is officially joining the cast for Anchorman 2.
Though it’s been a rumor for a few months, news of Wiig joining Anchorman 2‘s cast was confirmed by Christina Applegate on her Twitter account.
“So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for ‘Anchorman 2′,” tweeted Applegate, who will also return for the sequel. “Going 2 b best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made.”
Adam McKay, the director of Anchorman 2, also confirmed the news on his Facebook page, writing: “Kristen Wiig is officially on board for Anchorman 2. Couldn’t be more excited.”

Adam McKay has said that he’s planning on “creating a murderer’s row of the best day players ever,” because he likes the idea of “having every single one-line or three-line role just be someone we just love.”
Anchorman: The Legend Continues is due in theaters on December 20, 2013.
The film will reunite Will Farrell with Anchorman stars David Koechner, Steve Carell and Christina Applegate. Paul Rudd is also rumored to reprise his role from the first film, and Vince Vaughn is set to return as rival newscaster Wes Mantooth.
Very little has been revealed about the film’s prospective plot, though McKay has said it could involve a “custody battle and bowling,” reports Salon. Nothing is set in stone, and the script is still being worked on.
