Michael Bay Says ‘Transformers 4’ Will Be Completely Different

Michael Bay claims he’s going back to the drawing board for Transformers 4.

The Bad Boys director said that he would be tweaking the formula a bit for the sequel that’s headed to theaters next year. According to Cinema Blend, Bay explained the next movie wouldn’t be a total reboot. However, changes are reportedly in store for the Transformers series.

Bay recently explained to Forbes:

“We’re going to start off smaller. There’s a brand new cast. To freshen the franchise we’ve redesigned everything from top to bottom. The history of the first three movies is still there, we start four years later and there’s a reason why we’re meeting a new cast. Mark [Wahlberg] is really excited about it and it’s a great redesign.”

As far as reboot rumors are concerned, Bay insists that the changes being made are to the scope and direction of the story. As for the Transformers themselves, moviegoers shouldn’t expect too many alterations.

The director explained:

“We keep the Transformers the way they were, it’s just four years later. There’s a reason the [they] are redesigned. We’re trying to broaden the franchise and give it more places to go.”

Before Bay steps behind the camera for Transformers 4, the director will begin doing the promotional circuit for his buddy comedy Pain and Gain. The film stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Bay’s new best friend Mark Wahlberg as a pair of body builders who get wrapped up in a kidnapping scheme.

The Inquisitr reported last year that Michael Bay and Wahlberg became fast friends on the set of Pain and Gain. It was this relationship that prompted the director to cast the actor in the next Transformers flick.

Bay said on his website:

“Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on ‘Pain & Gain’ and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the ‘Transformers’ legacy.”
